FORTRESS (dir: Stuart Gordon, R) - Kurt says, "Did you like the early ’90s? Do you enjoy supreme graphical effects? Prison breaks? Bad voice-overs? Do you enjoy KURTWOOD SMITH? Do you enjoy movies that are set in the future that takes place in less than 7 years? Or perhaps you enjoy supreme graphical effects? FORTRESS is a rock ‘em sock ‘em action with top notch special effects. In 2017, if you get arrested you go to basically a MIND PRISON where you can’t even have pleasant dreams… not that you could if you were bunked up with CHRISTOPHER LAMBERT. Rent it today and take a ride into the future of magical fantasy that is and will be the year 2017."
DEAD ALIVE (dir: Peter Jackson, Unrated) - Thom says, "This movie is all about answering those seemingly unanswerable questions: What would a zombie baby look like? How many zombies can I kill with a lawn mower? What would happen if zombie-Kong mommy stuffed me back into her prison of a womb? Luckily we have Peter Jackson to answer these hitherto impossible queries. DEAD ALIVE is the story of a simple momma's boy living in New Zealand who is trying to cope simultaneously with new-found love and a short-lived Sumatran Rat-Monkey that has managed to turn everyone into pus-shooting horn-dog zombies. Worn out your copies of EVIL DEAD II, SLEEPAWAY CAMP, and SHAUN OF THE DEAD? DEAD ALIVE is right up your sick, perverted brainlane to gory fun."
TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME (dir: David Lynch, Not Rated) - Bart says, "Let's all agree that David Lynch is some kind of filmmaking genius. In the 25 years between his two masterpieces, ERASERHEAD and MULHOLLAND DRIVE, he's made some pretty memorable movies. By far, his most underrated film is this prequel to the full blown pop culture phenomenon that was TWIN PEAKS. Die-hard fans of the show were disappointed by the darkness of the movie's tone, the lack of certain favorite characters, and its refusal to provide any closure to the series' cliffhanger ending. Non-fans were sick of all the 'Who killed Laura Palmer?' nonsense and didn't bother seeing it. What they all missed was a seriously brilliant performance by Sheryl Lee as the abused homecoming queen who blazes a self-destructive trail to hell as the only escape from her awful secrets. Lynch never examined the evil in the hearts and minds of mankind more profoundly than in this film."
A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT (dir: Robert Redford, PG) – Kurt says, "Brad Pitt makes even fly fishing more fun. This movie makes me feel so good. If you're tired of summer hit movies with massive explosions and want a nice change of pace, then this movie might just be really close to what you want."
