THE SANDPIPER (dir: Vincente Minnelli, Not Rated) - Michelle says, "Hey, did you know that this was Jimmy’s favorite movie? You know Jimmy, that local, skinny curmudgeonly dude with the smoker’s cough, who died a few years ago? No? Well, this is the only movie I ever knew him to watch that was in color and didn’t involve a war. And it’s cheesy as hell, focused on Liz Taylor, the bohemian nonconformist single mom homeschooling her son from their beach shack on the Pacific coast… that is until Richard Burton, the headmaster of a boarding school, comes along and makes off with first Liz’s kid and then her heart. It’s not even a little subtle, but it’s fun. Especially if you know that Jimmy liked it."
THE SARAGOSSA MANUSCRIPT (dir: Wojciech Has, Not Rated) - Bart says, "I'll acknowledge that this surreal 3 hour Polish movie set in 18th century Spain about a soldier trying to unravel the mysteries of a magical book is a challenge that not everybody might want to take. Its story-within-a-story-within-a story structure makes it almost impossible to follow on your first viewing, but just surrender to its meandering adventures and macabre sense of humor, and trust that you'll be able to sort out some of the strands by the end. Or just drop some hallucinogens and lose yourself in its trippy black-and-white desert 'n' skulls imagery and keep reminding yourself this was Jerry Garcia's favorite movie."
THE COLLECTOR (dir: William Wyler, Not Rated) –  Greg says, "First of all, Terence Stamp is the coolest dude ever. That’s not up for debate. In this, his greatest performance, he plays a lonely bank teller who, after winning the lottery, buys his dream home in the country where he can frolic in the fields wearing cool outfits and net his beloved butterflies. Before too long he nets the most beautiful specimen of all, Samantha Eggar, and keeps her locked in his cellar, convinced that once she gets to know him she’ll love him."
