CLASSE TOUS RISQUES (dir: Claude Sautet, Not Rated) - Bart says, "I recently watched a couple of random French movies because I will literally watch ANY French movie made before 1970. The first was Jean-Pierre Melville's 1966 film, LE DEUXIEME SOUFFLE, and the second was this earlier feature which also stars Italian tough guy Lino Ventura. I thought the star was the only connection between the two films, but then I noticed both refer to a Monsieur Nevada, apparently the biggest gangster in Paris, and feature a police detective named Blot. I realized they must both be based on novels by the same author -  named Jos Giovanni, I discovered, who also wrote LE TROU, a great jailbreak movie. Sautet's is definitely the more human and enjoyable of the two films - about a retired crook who gets in some serious trouble but his ex-partners, who owe him their lives, refuse to help him out. I wish I'd seen this one first, because it would have helped me appreciate Melville's much more stylish and memorable film, which I found slightly boring without this earlier fable of 'honor among thieves' as a point of reference."

HOME FROM THE HILL  (dir: Vincente Minnelli, Not Rated) - Bart says, "For those of you with serious daddy issues, this movie is for you. A very young, unbronzed George Hamilton plays a mama's boy who's a huge disappointment to his ultra-masculine father, Robert Mitchum, but proves himself in a series of highly melodramic situations that involve multiple generations of illegitimate children, beautiful women both frigid and otherwise, and some wicked cool wild boar hunting scenes."
