NEW MOVIES!
FEBRUARY 26 - MARCH 3, 2008
AFTER SEX (dir: Eric
Amadio, Not Rated) - Mila Kunis, Taryn Manning and Jane Seymour sit around spouting relationship advice in this deservedly overlooked
indie. |
^BEOWULF (dir: Robert
Zemeckis, Unrated) - As everyone knows, the only thing sexier than the real Ray Winstone is a
CGI Ray Winstone fighting naked with a Crispin Glover troll. |
BLACK WATER (dir: David Nerlich / Andrew
Traucki, R) - One of the problems with camping out in Australia is the tendency of giant Saltwater Crocodiles to trap you up trees for the duration of the trip. |
BONE DRY (dir: Brett A. Hart, R) - Lance Henrickson plays a mysterious gunman out to ruin Luke Goss's day in this thriller set in the Mojave Desert. |
COMANCHE MOON (dir: Simon Wincer, Not Rated) - Fans of LONESOME DOVE will go nuts for this latest chapter, especially now that Val Kilmer is on board. |
*THE DARJEELING LIMITED (dir: Wes Anderson, R) - Wes Anderson's latest whimsy-drenched delight sends Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman and Adrien Brody off to India in search of enlightenment and some serious brotherly bonding. |
DARKON (dir: Luke Meyer / Andrew
Neel, Not Rated) - There are only two reasons anyone has heard of Live Action Role Playing or
LARPing. The first reason would be that you're a huge nerd. The second reason would be that you enjoy making fun of huge nerds. Decide which camp you belong in with this documentary that explores this unique nerd subculture. |
DAY ZERO (dir: Bryan Gunnar Cole, R) - If you haven't had your fill of poorly-made and painfully preachy war movies yet, check out Elijah Wood as a young man who has 30 days to prepare for Iraq after the draft is reinstated. |
DEATH AT A FUNERAL (dir: Frank Oz, R) - Add this to BILLY ELLIOT, SAVING GRACE, CALENDAR GIRLS, THE FULL MONTY and WAKING NED DEVINE and your nice British movie collection is practically complete. |
THE GOOD HUMOR MAN (dir: Tenney Fairchild, R) - This teen comedy set in 1976 seems a bit throwaway, but does have the good taste to feature Jason Segal from FREAKS & GEEKS and Hurley from LOST. |
GOYA'S GHOSTS (dir: Milos Forman, R) - Javier Bardem and Natalie Portman get out their best accents in Milos Forman's ode to the lusty Spanish painter. |
IMAGINATION (dir: Eric
Leiser, Not Rated) - Two sisters, one blind and one possibly autistic, delve deep into their inner lives to escape the confusing world of adults in this unusual partly-animated film. |
LEGEND OF THE BLACK SCORPION (dir: Xiaogang
Feng, Not Rated) - Zhang Ziyi stars in this loose adaptation of HAMLET. There's probably very little actual scorpion action going on here. |
LIFE AFTER TOMORROW (dir: Gil Cates Jr. / Julie Stevens, PG- 13) - This documentary catches up with all the young ladies who have played the title role of ANNIE, most notably Sarah Jessica Parker. |
PINOCHET'S LAST STAND (dir: Richard Curson Smith, Not Rated) - Derek Jacobi stars as the fun-loving Chilean dictator who sadly passed away before he ever got to pay for his human rights violations. |
POOR BOY'S GAME (dir: Clement Virgo, R) - Two young thugs set about turning their lives around after prison by learning how to properly hurt people in the boxing ring. |
SILK (dir: Francois Girard, R) - Michael Pitt plays a silkworm smuggler who totally ditches his wife Keira Knightly for his foxy concubine while on business in Japan. |
SLIPSTREAM (dir: Anthony Hopkins, R) - Anthony Hopkins is full of surprises. Like this strange little film that he wrote and directed which mixes the logic of the WHAT THE BLEEP?#$@! films with the sanity of THE SECRET. |
30 DAYS OF NIGHT (dir: David Slade, R) - Vampires enjoying the perpetual midnight of Alaska. Suspiciously,
it's strikingly similar plot-wise to last year's Swedish horror-comedy FROSTBITTEN. |
TO KILL A KING (dir: Mike Barker, Not Rated) - Tim Roth, Dougray Scott and Olivia Williams star in this enthralling tale of the plot to overthrow King Charles I by Oliver Cromwell and General Fairfax. |
