NEW MOVIES!  JANUARY 15 - JANUARY 21, 2008

CASTING ABOUT (dir: Barry J. Hershey, Not Rated) – It takes a special blend of self-absorption and delusion to become an actor. Find out all about it in this documentary about the dramatic arts.
*CROSSING THE LINE (dir: Daniel Gordon, Not Rated) – This documentary about Joseph Dresnok, America’s most famous defector, was granted a surprising amount of freedom by the North Korean government. It includes the first interviews with Dresnok since 1962 when he walked across the DMZ.
DIAMETER OF THE BOMB (dir: Steven Silver / Andrew Quigley, Not Rated) – This documentary about the aftermath of a suicide bomb in Jerusalem uses Israeli forensic footage, Hamas training videos and home movies of the victims to create a startling and unique portrait of tragedy.
DRAGONLANCE: DRAGONS OF AUTUMN TWILIGHT (dir: Will Meugniot, PG-13) – Kiefer Sutherland recorded his voiceover work for this cartoon while in jail.
FAMILY GUY PRESENTS BLUE HARVEST (dir: Seth MacFarlane, Not Rated) – FAMILY GUY spoofs STAR WARS and it’s just as unfunny as you’d imagine.
GOOD LUCK CHUCK (dir: Mark Helfrich, Unrated) – Dane Cook, when not guffawing loudly to FAMILY GUY reruns, likes to make really awful movies. In his latest, he plays a horny dentist fornicating with as many ladies as possible because of a plot device so bewildering I can neither repeat it here nor even understand it.
HE WAS A QUIET MAN (dir: Frank Cappello, Not Rated) – Christian Slater turns in the performance of his career as a stressed out office drone on the verge of going nuts who inadvertently becomes a hero after saving a woman’s life.
JACKASS 2.5 (dir: Jeff Tremaine, Unrated) – This selection of unused tidbits will satiate nearly every need you have to see grown man playing in each other’s bodily fluids.
KILLER DILLER (dir: Tricia Brock, PG-13) – A guitar playing car thief is sent to reform school where he is lucky enough to meet a piano playing autistic savant to start a band with.
MR. WOODCOCK (dir: Craig Gillespie, PG-13) – Billy Bob Thornton stars as a sadistic phys-ed teacher in this dreary comedy that has been sitting in New Line Cinemas vault since about 2004.
OPERATION HOMECOMING (dir: Richard E. Robbins, Not Rated) – Robert Duvall, Beau Bridges, Aaron Eckhart and others read letters from the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan in this quiet and unbiased documentary.
OSWALD’S GHOST (dir: Robert Stone, Not Rated) – A conspiracy theory doc about Lee Harvey Oswald and directed by “Robert” Stone. Come on, Olly. We know it’s you.
THE REAL DIRT ON FARMER JOHN (dir: Taggart Siegel, Not Rated) – Here’s another documentary. This one’s about a radical farmer ostracized by his conservative community.
^THE TEN (dir: David Wain, R) – The cool people who brought us WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER strike comedy gold again with this takedown of the ten commandments.
WEDDING DAZE (dir: Michael Ian Black, R) – Jason Biggs will never escape that AMERICAN PIE font. Nor should he.
